Hi John – I have a question. The college football season has been over for months. Why does Villanova keep the lights on at their football stadium every night? The light pollution can be seen for quite some distance, and it really doesn’t make sense when the place sits empty night after night. This is a common complaint and I have communicated this issue to the University on several occasions. Apparently, VU uses the stadium for outdoor practice by all the sports teams and band. I think they also rent the field to other organizations and local schools for practice. Yet I have been up at the stadium at 11PM many nights and I see no one there?
Bob Morrow, Director of Facilities told me that they dim the lights to about half power at 9PM as per the agreement between the University and the Township and that they turn the lights off by midnight every night. There is a timer to turn the lights off but on occasion the timer is either disabled or is not on the right time so the lights stay on later.
