NEWS!
The speed limit on Lancaster from Spring Mill Road (320) to County Line Road in Lower Merion is being dropped from 35 to 25. This is something that I (resident TJ Latloff and former commissioner Dave Cannan) have worked on for about 6 years - this is a big win for pedestrian safety and neighborhoods along the "Highway".
After writing numerous letters over the years, the defining moment for me was measuring the roadway at midnight with TJ a few months ago and discovering the roadway narrowed 8 feet in our neighborhood. It was like Frogger trying to run the tape across the roadway (I was the frog btw) but that simple step cinched the argument with the township engineer and PENNDOT.
This change should make it much safer for the estimated 800+ pedestrians walking to Bryn Mawr each week and cars entering the highway from Garrett, Lowrys, Old Oaks, Hawthorne, Black Friar, Barley Cone roads. The new speed limit will be posted in the new year.
My hope is that improved flow rates and less traffic jams are a result of the reduced speed limit and the planned light control system that will time the lights on Lancaster for better flow control.
